Work is well underway on our Carshalton extension and refurbishment project, and it’s always a satisfying moment when the RIBA Chartered Architect signboard goes up on the scaffolding — a small but proud reminder of the standards and professionalism that guide every project I take on.

The site has now moved through its initial demolition phase, with a full tin-hat scaffold installed to protect the structure and allow the works to continue safely in all weather conditions. With clear skies above and the existing structure opened up, it’s been the perfect time to fine-tune the coordination of the new steelwork.

That steel is now about to be ordered, marking an exciting transition point — from deconstruction to the careful rebuilding and extension that will transform the property.

From here, the project will start to take on its new shape. Once the steels are in, the fresh volumes, glazing, and detailing will begin to reveal themselves — always the most rewarding part of any build.

As ever, I’ll share more updates as the project develops. For now, it’s great to see progress on site and my signboard up on the scaffold, flying the flag for The Gentleman Architect in Carshalton.
